classic boy meets girl romances, and some supernatural action sequences are the very foundation of what has come to be known as the Paranormal Romance genre It s not everyone s cup of tea and the fact that there are so many authors who have tried to cash in on the success of a certain saga does not help with gaining it any credibility for those that might still be on the fence about the genre In a lot of ways, An Unexpected Bonding makes a conscious effort to try and take the popularized formula and mix it up in an interesting blend of different familiar things Introduced at the very start of the book are the faerie, which come off in a very similar way to the fantastical creatures of childhood fairy tales These immortal beings do not live in the physical realm in the same way that other creatures do, but they do like to meddle with its affairs Though this is often done with the best of intentions, it often results in the mortal realm being far worse off than it was before This layer adds quite a bit to the context of the action and opens the door for new twists to enter into the mix One such twist is that all of the Vampire characters seem to come straight from the Ancient Egyptian pantheon of famed gods including, but not limited to Ra, Isis, and Osiris The wolves come from mythological origins as well and both species are the result of faerie meddling All these mystical elements set the stage for a farinteresting brand of monster than I would normally associate with this genre and create some welcome intrigue within the story space Additionally, while there is definitely a central love story between two characters, there are a TON of other individuals who all get their time to shine whether they are introduced in the beginning or make appearances later on The cast for this story is enormous and each person is characterized so well that they do feel distinct from one another in a really wonderful way The fact that the perspective changes frequently helps readers keep up with all these characters and never did I find myself confused as to who is who There are even certain sequences told and then retold from these different vantage points so as to provide added insight into the book s bigger moments This all adds up to something that feels refreshingly unique and I haven t even touched upon the cozy southern setting or all the different relationships that are cultivated between the vast assortments of characters This is a lengthy adventure and while it is fun to praise it for everything it has done right, there are some things that should be called out that may or may not impact a reader s enjoyment of the text.To be clear, this is not the Paranormal Romance for people who generally dislike Paranormal Romances It is also not a narrative for readers who need constant action This is story that is told at the pace that it wants to be told at which winds up being something of a trot If that sounds like a negative, it may be for you depending on personal taste, but this steadier pace also allows readers to really soak in what each and every character has to offer If you are the type that likes prolonged, easy going stories, then this is definitely something that appeals to those interests This is also not a story for the faint of heart when it comes to lovemaking in literature There is steamy romance aplenty here that starts pretty early on and can be found throughout The author has a rich vocabulary and uses sumptuous adjectives that make even the non sexual moments feel lusty and idealized It s not necessarily a grounded representation of love or making love, but when there are vampires and wolves running around, that probably is not a very valid complaint There were certainly some key areas where this work did not really come together for me The dialogue is strangely inconsistent and often feels a bit janky since it sometimes sounds like a strange blend of old English, Victorian English, and modern day slang which works 100% of the time for the Vampire characters, but is less plausible for others There are also moments of unnecessary explanation or repetition of previously explained ideas which pulled me out of the moment, but I should point out that I read through this pretty quickly so if you like to read at afragmented pace, then this might actually be helpful to you.The main audience for this piece is going to be those that are already fans about this type of story, but it might also be able to pull in those that maybe didn t care for Twilight, but haven t written the genre off as whole just yet I tend to fall within this camp While I had a lot of problems with thetechnical aspects of the piece, I found myself pleased with the direction that the author pushes this genre in The added layers of complexity not only put forth that extra something for people already on board with this type of novel, but also challenge the very notion of what goes into the Paranormal Romance formula There is a concerted effort to break from genre convention without alienating current fans and I think An Unexpected Bonding successfully manages to do just that If you re looking for the next big thing in Paranormal Romance or you feel the genre is a little stale and are waiting for something that will shake it up, then I highly recommend that you give this one a look So many exciting characters in this book I enjoyed it I could not put this book down I love it I hope I get to read book 2 I think if you like the Twilight Series, you will enjoy this book I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review My first thought is WOW, just wow I want to jump into the world Lily Rayman has created and never leave I can t even decide if I d want to be a Romulus pack member or one of the vampires So first, I LOVE how she chose Egyptian gods to be the vampires The backstory of their creation and of Ra and his children, I m really just speechless to describe how fantastic it all is My next point is a little vague because I don t want to give away anything The wolf pack, Livia, her unknown destiny.m My first thought is WOW, just wow I want to jump into the better Honestly, An Unexpected Bonding, in my opinion blows Twilight out of the water For me it s one of the best told versions of wolf and vampire worlds There are a few editing issues, not too bad but can take a reader out of the groove My biggest worry is that I don t know if there arebooks with these characters coming I really hope so While the author provided me a copy of this story, this to change into her wolf form, she gained permission from her father to move to Texas where she met a bull breeder, Nate, and fell in love with him Nate asked Livvie to marry him, and the two became they find themselves facing each other in a centuries old war When I first started reading An Unexpected Bonding by Lilly Rayman, I was expecting one dimensional, sappy characters in a clich d paranormal romance story line I soon discovered how wrong I was Not only did Rayman create realistic and down to earth main protagonists, she also did a really excellent job of giving the supporting protagonists their own unique personalities and backgrounds While fleshing out the characters resulted in a break from the story s action sequences, these flashbacks and asides were relevant to what was happening in the story and did not break the plot s continuity For adults that enjoyed the Twilight series, but felt that it needed to beedgy and less sappy this book is for you The romances in the story reflected the supernatural races views of marriage in a realistic manner Marriage is merely a civil union the bond between two supernatural beings in the story is for life, and the bond is formalized between the two parties in private There isn t any dramatic swooning, hand wringing, or second guessing bonding is related to readers as a natural part of life, and the bonds are accepted by the parties peers.I really enjoyed An Unexpected Bonding by Lilly Rayman because it has characters that I can relate to, interesting character histories, and realistic romances This held my attention completely. There were parts in it where it frustrated me due to jumping around from one point of view to another but in the end it showed all of the participants views, which I enjoyed. The story line was impressive with the old world working it s way in with the new world.I am so looking forward to reading the next book and following this author a lotclosely from now on. I don t even know what to say as I try to formulate the review I am going to do my best to cover everything without spoiling Nobody likes a spoil sport. This story covers Egyptian mythology while throwing in the paranormal of fae, vampire, wolf, and gods The author did a fantastic job of weaving in the history, mythology, and present into a story line that will have your head spinning At first There were no questions left for me at the end except I wanted MORE I will admit at first it felt a little slow moving I was worried because I hate slow moving books At about 20% though, it picked up pace and I was turning the page as fast as my fingers could slide across my Kindle Livvia is the primary heroine in this story She is the wolf less alpha s daughter that has gone to find herself away from her pack Many things happened to shape Liv into the person she is When Lupa comes into play, Liv will have not only a battle within to fight but one with many outside threats as well.Darius has had his struggles and lands on a ranch to help Liv with all it entails Other forces are at work, but the pair realizes that there is a destiny between the two of them that will bring a new era to dawn.Isia, Julio, Numito, Cato, Tessa, and so many others secondary characters that had a major role in the plot were so thoroughly written I couldn t find a moment where I was dissatisfied with the depth of the characters It played well into understanding the past and hoping for the present and future. The villains in this story were equally written as well as the heroes The vivid imagery used to convey the hate, lust, anger, and rage was palpitating This whole story immersed you in a world that flourished to life in your mind This is my first read by this author but I certainly hope it s not my last I desperately want to know how Darius and Liv come out of the aftermath If you like a different paranormal read, then I would highly recommend this story It is unique in its own rights and will have you on the edge of your seat turning pages to reveal the epic battle that laid ahead Not your ordinary shifter vampire tale, this story is about a young woman named Livvie who begins asof a vampires and wolves The author has taken ancient gods goddesses like Ra and Hathor and put a spin on them, making them vampires Although they are striving for peace, there are those that dissent and for some reason half the males in this book are after Livvie I m not sure why, but only one of them happens to be her mate Livvie goes through a lot of changes, including having her wolf released, and
