fantastic, it was just ehh Have you ever read one of those books where absolutely everything happens to the main character And I do mean everything Yeah, this is one of those books Some people enjoy reading books like that I m just not one of them I was over Lisa, our main character, by the first third of the book There was just too much happening and I knew that a tonwas to come. Now, I felt bad for Lisa She was definitely dealt a crappy hand in life with a mother who was anything was nice, dealing with men who aren t the best for her, and other snowballing circumstances all I wanted was for the good to come sooner But it didn t The angst was so drawn out and because of that, this book felt like it was a couple hundred pages too long I think that if Bingley would have made this into 2 3 books, I would have been able to handle everything better This was over 500 pages of heavy, heavy stuff and I just couldn t deal The writing style was also a bit chaotic for me Not the easiest to follow Sometimes I couldn t tell which characters were in dialogue with each other There was a few plot gaps too, which is why I thinkthan one book would have been best Lisa had multiple instances within this book that could have been fleshed out a bitEspecially when it came to the men in her life i.e Toby, Neal, Renato. While I appreciate what Bingley was trying to do, I just don t think the delivery of the book hit the mark I feel like three books, less choppy, fleshed out scenes would have been best Also, the formatting of the dialogue, THAT needs to be changed Rereading scenes for comprehension isn t fun Do you know what it s like to feel unloved Every facet of Lisa Greene s life is missing that one important element She was adopted and doted on by her father However, the relationship with her mother is anything but friendly All she ever wanted was the kindness she so desperately craved After Lisa s mother revealed that she was adopted, any pretense of a normal s life is missing that one important element She was adopted and doted on by her father However, the relationship with her mother is anything but friendly All she ever wanted was the kindness she so desperately craved After Lisa s mother revealed that she was adopted, any pretense of a normal relationship went out the window Then the opportunity for a finishing school abroad is thrust upon her Something that gets her away from her mother, but takes what little kindness she felt from her father away Unbeknownst to Lisa this was another step in the future her parents were so carefully planning for the young girl Upon a trip home, Lisa is forced into a society that she detests While avoiding the spotlight that her parents try to thrust upon her, Lisa runs into Toby Walker With his sights set on a quick roll in the hay, Toby does his best to seduce Lisa As things begin to heat up, Lisa is thrust into a future that she could never see coming Escaping one betrayal for another So begins the cycle of loss and pain that Lisa will experience A set of circumstances that snowball Something that may have played out differently if it weren t for Toby White Where to begin This book was really hard to finish I found myself wanting to throw in the towel on so many occasions The plot.well, it still sort of eludes me The writing was..well, just too much There is an abundance of thoughts all thrown together Some skipping large portions of content while others story lines just overloaded the story I didn t feel like the story really was interesting until about 75% into the book Then things made sense The story smoothed out and wasrelatable I actually feel like this story could have been broken down into three novels Then the author could fill in story plots that were choppy and not really relatable Maybe drawing inreaders with the suspense that could have been built around Lisa s plight and turmoil with Toby Then another dealing with her life with Neal Then the plot could have built towards Renato There was also the issue of which character was speaking At times, I found I had to reread a page several times to understand which person was stating the sentences That always bothers me when reading a book Actually it s one of my pet peeves When you are distracted by rereading, it takes away from the story Not the best thing in a novel of this size All in all, this just wasn t my cup of tea It wasn t a smooth read and it made reading this novel very, very hard So I am rating this one 2 Stars Very Long book Could have been much shorter An ok read though. I enjoyed this as I do most of her books though this is the first one that isn t horror The story trots along and although not brilliant literature it s good to read and an interesting story And you genuinely want a happy ending I enjoyed this as I do most of her books though this is the first one that isn t horror The story trots along and although not brilliant literature is good to read and an wealth, not in love When a turn of events leaves her single, with an Autistic child to raise, without the means to support herself, Lisa gets stuck in an abusive new relationship that she is desperate to get out of BETRAYAL catalogs one woman s search for love without conditions, sexual or otherwise, in a world that seems bent against her It took me a while to come up with something to write in people in on this, except for Lisa She was betrayed and hurt over and over again from the time she was 7 years old and beyond The things this girl goes through are just incredible and appalling, yet realistic There are so many layers to this story, I know I have to read it again to fully capture everything Every character brings an immense amount of drama and plot twists with them Every single one brings an insane amount of drama, hurt and betrayal for Lisa Just when you think a character is bad, there s another one even worse coming Just when you think what else could go wrong, something else does Plot twists and surprising turns are present in every chapter To my surprise, even with everything that goes on , and trust me when I say it s a LOT, Lisa keeps her head on straight She manages to keep a clear mind, stay strong and my favorite thing about her, she s NOT whiny Yes, she has her meltdowns once in a while, but I could absolutely get where she was coming from In an era where autism wasn t well known or documented, she faces indescribable hardships raising her daughter Throw in the fact that she has no means of supporting herself and depends on Neal Gueras, a man who seems to be charming and rich , yet Lisa knows has a dark and violent side Oh yeah Neal despises her daughter With a passion This alone makes for a ton of drama That doesn t even scratch the surface of everything that goes on As I started reading, I quickly knew two things it was going to be an amazing book and I wasn t going to be able to put it down Remarkable characters that stayed with me and evoked deep feelings in me, a superbly written story, nail biting drama, heart wrenching events and a very satisfying ending A book that demanded my attention and swept me up in the time and settings Spectacular 5 star readNOTE The blurb nowhere NEAR does justice to this book Lisa has had an emotionally stunted childhood As an adopted child, she was never good enough for her mother and her father wanted to use her for his gain She is opinionated and boisterous which leads to some wrong decisions When she makes a huge error it alters her life completely.Lisa is a character that pulls on you emotionally She goes through experiences that can only be described as torture She was reared in the wrong circle and the people in it is what lead to the men in her life She Lisa has had an in the wrong circle and the people in it is what lead to the men in her life She is so innocent, vulnerable, and gullible that she doesn t know the dangers around her until it s at a point of no return I don t want to give anything away, just know that each event effects the future events. The book is a long novel length It takes Lisa from a young girl to a woman in her 20 s It s a story of organized crime in England along with a group from Italy Based on clothing descriptions I d say it s the 80 s or 90 s It was hard to read how little the women matter in this world Even the children are only used for bartering or heirs The story is thorough and detailed There are some times when it s hard to tell who is speaking, but once you get used to how the book is written it s not bothersome This is the first book I ve read by this author, but I will surely look at her others She knows how to make a story so gripping that it leaves a permanent mark on you I love the ending, It was done so that a person is left feeling complete with no wish forinformation of the future I received this book from the author in exchange of an honest review. This was a very interesting read very different from anything I usually read I gave this book a 3.5 stars because I felt it wasn t developed too well for me, but it was still enjoyable to readLisa is an adopted girl raised by a couple who would in your life Right when you think a character is bad, there s another one even worse coming Just when you think what else could go wrong, something else does I admire how Lisa keeps her head on would recommend this book to mature readers
