This book is both pretty hilarious and profoundly helpful Mike McKinley walks us through his experience of church revitalisation what worked, what didn t, how God used the various experiences to glorify Himself Not so much a how to as a how we did , there is lots of encouragement to be gained as well as pointers in how a church in its early life could proceed Being involved in a church plant currently, I found the book a bit scary in places as well as super encouraging in others It s no This book is both pretty hilarious and profoundly helpful Mike McKinley walks us through his experience of church revitalisation what worked, what didn t, how God used the various experiences to glorify Himself Not so much a how to as a how we did , there is lots of encouragement to be gained as well as pointers in how a church in its early life could proceed Being involved in a church plant currently, I found the book a bit scary in places as well as super encouraging in others It s not a huge volume, but what is does contain is helpful, realistic, never fluffy, and ultimately is Biblical in its content and motivation Even if you are not involved in a church plant or revitalisation project, I think this is an important little book for Christians to read whilst McKinley is himself part of the network of churches that associates with the 9Marks movement, the Acts29 movement currently headed up by Matt Chandler promotes being involved with church planting as being a sign of a healthy church I m inclined to agree until all the population of our towns and cities are in a saving relationship with Jesus, we can never have too many churches Therefore I would highly recommend this book to everyone Church Planting Is for Wimps is a funny, but honest look at the serious work of church revitalization Mike McKinley starts out with the task of planting a church in Washington DC However, he soon shifts to church revitalization landing at Guilford Baptist Church in Sterling, Virginia McKinley stresses that revitalization will establish a new Gospel presence while removing a bad witness Further, he believes that the saints in the dead congregation will be encouraged and the resources from t Church Planting Is for Wimps is a funny, but honest look at the serious work of church revitalization Mike McKinley starts out with the task of planting a church in Washington DC However, he soon shifts to church revitalization landing at Guilford Baptist Church in Sterling, Virginia McKinley stresses that revitalization will establish a new Gospel presence while removing a bad witness Further, he believes that the saints in the dead congregation will be encouraged and the resources from the dead congregation can be harnessed The book details a series of ups and downs, mainly downs, before he has some success in the ministry at Guilford His story is a real, down to earth, story about church growth It is a very encouraging book, especially for those in church ministry Great book on church planting A very easy read I have to say that this book readlike a church revitalization than a church plant but it still had great information in it for the person who is looking to plant a new church or revitalize an existing church The pastor who wrote this book has a Baptist background not that that means anything I m just saying that when he talks about parts of the revitalization of a church he was pastoring in, it deals with elders, deacons, by laws, covena Great book on church planting A very easy read I have to say that this book readlike a church revitalization than a church plant but it still had great information in it for the person who is looking to plant a new church or revitalize an existing church The pastor who wrote this book has a Baptist background not that that means anything I m just saying that when he talks about parts of the revitalization of a church he was pastoring in, it deals with elders, deacons, by laws, covenants, membership, etc Church revitalization is different than church planting Revitalization has to do with coming into a pre existing church and bringing new life to it Overall the book was well written and there is some great information that I will be using for myself in the future This is a great book for anyone leaning towards church planting or church revitalization This book is largely the author s humorous account of revitalizing a church while being sent out of the ministry of CHBC It is a consistent reminder that churches gain life through the Spirit working through the faithful preaching of the Word Pastors don t need to be superstars who never make mistakes They need to be faithful in leading their churches to follow the basics of what the Bible teaches that churches are to do. Really great book Insightful and is written from his experience in church planting Many books give the how to or what to do This books takes it a bit deeper from the practical side of things and you get a look into real issues he faced I really appreciated the struggles he shared, I was able to relate a lot and was blessed. A refreshing, easy, edifying, and entertaing read on the heart of planting a gospel ministry. A helpful that was pleasant to read Very helpful and practical account of the authors church replanting journey A lot of great truth to chew on, although I would push against some of the anti pragmatism that they advocate for to a degree.
