I received this book in a goodreads giveawayThis is a humorous short story, very tongue in cheek, hilarious in parts The characters are all self obsessed but don t mind telling everyone else how to live their lives Pretty much everyone get s on each other s nerves and the management speak is priceless I only gave this book three stars because the characters grated on my nerves and by the end of the book I could have happily banged their heads together but maybe that s just me I received a copy of this book free from Goodreads. On the lead up to his breakdown I really wanted to shoot Fred as he was inflicting his opinions on all and sundry convinced that his way is the only way and don t we all know someone like this What made me smile was the fact that although the instances of shoplifting was way down, due to Fred s tactics, staff absences shot up There are some quite humorous moments in the book but who was inside the horse suit Won on Goodreads I won this book very recently and was pleasantly surprised when it arrived on Saturday morning as I was heading out to the beach Very quick Farry s novella is very short at just 75 pages, but it s packed with plot and characters I read it in one sitting which helped to keep the pace going and was perfect for a lazy day in the sun The premise of the story is that Fred, a forcibly retired solider from Camp Bastion, is struggling to fit back into modern British society His wif Won on Goodreads I won this book very recently and was pleasantly surprised when it arrived on Saturday morning as I was heading out to the beach Very quick Farry s novella is very short at just 75 pages, but it s packed with plot and characters I read it in one sitting which helped to keep the pace going and was perfect for a lazy day in the sun The premise of the story is that Fred, a forcibly retired solider from Camp Bastion, is struggling to fit back into modern British society His wife, Chardonney, an excellent Avon lady, has been left bereft as an army wife and their relationship breaks down Following a hilarious for us, not for Fred, who takes it very seriously stint at a superstore Fred begins a twee but enjoyable journey of self discovery I laughed out loud, in public, with no shame at this story It s great My only fault is that it is far far far too short I think it works really well as a pitch for a longer novel or for a tv show even, but I was a desperate fordepth He spend only 10ish pages at the superstore which was my favourite bit but lots happens and is hinted at What about discovering who s in the horse costume What about a theft from the shop Every little plot twist was entertaining but felt sparse in terms of depth of character and understanding Basically, I WANT MORE I would recommend this novella to anyone who likes short fiction and humerous fiction as it is both trowels I would say spades but it is very short I would also be happy to read any further novels that Farry writers, hopefully he takes a risk and writes something slightly longer next time Blog
