stuff The Death of Captain America, anyone It shouldn t be a secret that Hope s been sent to live among the Shakers, along with her little brother, John Coming from a world where she was her family s mainstay, with close bonds between herself and John especially shortly before the book begins, surrendering her responsibilities and her access to John is a jolt Hope s been made to grow up well before her time now the Shakers are teaching her to be a girl again, one who might take to their ways and contribute her natural talents to their community Gaeddert knows Shakers Literally The back flap copy talks about her experiences visiting and getting to know three Shakers who have probably died since this was written at the real Hancock and New Lebanon settlements In reading this, even with that knowledge in the back of my head, part of me saw the Shakers as impossible but no, this was who they were and how they lived They valued women as highly as men They solved problems most people were content to leave alone view spoiler In the book, this is reflected in John s severe allergies an elder takes the time to determine which allergens were causing his severe reactions and solves the mystery Not only that, he creates objects and situations that will allow John to live a normal life hide spoiler These are the people you can thank for the flat broom, for pete s sake By the end, I half wished I had never developed a desire for things Being a Shaker sounds pretty awesome if you re totally alone in the world and have no particular reason to interact with people of any gender but your own Alas I have people I have reason No Shaker revivals here Just a woman reading a short, sweet book about a time that feels like myth but is really part of this country s history one of the better parts, if you ask me Juve fiction, of courseA wee, small book about the Shakers A young girl and her brother are orphaned and taken in by the Shakers, to be raised in their strict, tight showed the lyrics of the song and talked about how the people marched around and danced I would recommend this book to anyone aged 5 100 because it is a good book that talks about people called the Shakers and it talks about a girl and her brother s lives as Shakers It is really interesting This novel, a chapter book for children, is about a girl named Hope, who was brought to live with the Shakers, I would encourage them to find non fiction resources Read between March 6 April 29 of 1998 Read between March 6 April 29 of 1998 Interesting book for children about the Shakers Not a very satisfying story, but the writing was okay. I learned a lot about Shakers from this book for kids interesting read However, the ending was unsatisfactory. &READ BOOK ⇝ Hope ✐ Hope and her younger brother, John, went to live with the Shakers because they had no other choice Ma had died, Pa was off in the California gold fields, and Uncle Josiah didn t want to raise them But men and women, even boys and girls, must live apart in the Shaker village that s just one of their strange rules And although Hope grows to respect these kind and industrious people, she never stops longing to be reunited with her father
