En resumen, la historia es ligera y sencilla, me recuerda a las pel culas de antena 3 los s bados a la tarde Apenas tiene drama as que es f cil de leer I wanted to like this book, I really did I guess I hoped it would be a light, fluffy, chicklit y read, but there was just too much other stuff in the book that ruined that would be feeling for me What I like about chicklit is strong female characters not necessarily because they start out that way, but because they learn to stand up for themselves and what they want What I like about romance is the because they learn to stand up for themselves and what they want What I like about romance is the melding of minds and bodies, depending on what type of romance I m reading and that warm fuzzy feeling you get from reading about two people you care about finding each other and living happily ever after Unfortunately, this is not what I got from reading this book Sure, the basics were there, but the surrounding events and characters stole something from what could have been a good romance Be warned, there is a rant coming on view spoiler 1 The parents a His parentsThese characters annoyed me to no end Mom even got her own POV First of all, if you re going to follow a strict moral code, please do so in all your dealings The hypocrisy made my skin itch How was it okay for her to lie and make up rumours about her son and then to trick him into sharing a bed with his supposed girlfriend, and then turn around and condemn them for sleeping together If you re throwing around words like fornication definitely a mood killer in a contemporary romance , you should be backing your character up with a lotrighteousness if you want anyone to at least understand them To top it off, we never heard from the parents again after the trip, save for a brief mention of them in the epilogue, so there was no room to make them likeable in the least b Her parentsFor most of the book, we were led to believe that Margot was all alone in the world, having lost her mother at 18 Then, sometime around 60 70 % in, we find out that she was the love child of a judge and has a half sister that suddenly shows up to stay with her because her parents kicked her out at 23 for slacking off Then we find out that her father wants nothing to do with her unless it s to criticize and blame her for corrupting her half sister Uh, what How is she corrupting someone we just met and never heard of before To top that off, the fact that she s a love child apparently warrants baggage and scorn from other people Seriously Was this not a semi contemporary book I saw them mention a BlackBerry, so surely it s set in the 20th century 2 The brother What kind of married man will make crude and lewd hey, that rhymes remarks about his brother s supposed girlfriend and have them watch a horse breeding to get her in the mood Seriously SERIOUSLY 3 The insta friendshipHey, it s great that Margot becomes such close friends with her boss wife on the days before she s due to quit, but it just seemed a bit off to me 4 The insta loveOkay, I m using the term wrong here, but it s just so sudden Margot is crushing on Phil for three years, and he has absolutely no interest in her He makes this abundantly clear to his co worker, and she overhears When she quits and he is left with no choice but to bring her to meet his parents , he suddenly realizes he finds her attractive One weekend later and he s in love So much so, in fact, that he drops her like a hot potatoe when he thinks he might have competition for her affections 5 The names This is highly subjective as is this entire review , but I just can t get that excited about a man named Phil No offense to you Phils out there Not a huge fan of Margot , either, unless she had been French Which she was not It just feels old, which in turn makes me think they re in their 40s and 50s and not in their 20s and 30s 6 The loose ends Even though I must admit I was happy to see the book come to an end, there were so many loose ends left to tie up with regards to the family and friends What happened to the relationship between Margot and Phil s parents obviously they hadn t seen them since that weekend and Phil had to propose before they came to visit Did Margot s sister straighten out her life Did Margot s dad ever eat a piece of humble pie Did the co worker s new baby and dog get along the baby could develop allergies, or the dog become jealous of the baby getting all the attention did he move in with Margot instead Did the doctor that was chasing after Margot accept defeat or was there tension with them working together and did he stay a client to Phil Did Rebecca the receptionist work out or did they have to find a replacement Did Phil and his co worker ever do anything at work except leaf through papers and gossip about the former and present staff See I have questions about characters I really could care less about, but it still bugs me that I can t close the book on them too hide spoiler Ouch I guess I tend to only write long reviews when I am being harsh Bad Sweede I m sure plenty of people will enjoy this book I m as callar los rus sobre su sexualidad Lo cierto, es que nunca le ha parecido atractiva la mujer y de pronto , de un momento a otro lo tiene loco Para que decir, que el hermano en un momento ofrece ver a los caballos follando y ellos terminan calent ndose con eso Jajajaja noooo. When Christy Hayes asked me to review The Sweetheart Hoax I was oh so excited I had already read Heart of Glass and I was so excited to read this one It did not disappoint We met Phil in Heart of Glass he s Danny s partner in their architect business Phil likes to having a dashing woman on his arm at all times, but he s still looking for that special someone to share his life He think s he ll find that someone by dating models and the like but we know better Margot is a hardworking recept When Christy Hayes asked me to review The Sweetheart Hoax I was oh so excited I had already read Heart of Glass and I was so excited to read this one It did not disappoint We met Phil in Heart of Glass he s Danny s partner in their architect business Phil likes to having a dashing woman on his arm at all times, but he s still looking for that special someone to share his life He think s he ll find that someone by dating models and the like but we know better Margot is a hardworking receptionist that has been simultaneously pursuing her dreams It is no easy task for her because things have not been handed to her on a platter Margot has secretly had a crush on Phil for years, but he has never quite noticed heruntil she quits her job.I read The Sweetheard Hoax during Dewey s Readathon because I purposefully saved it I knew it would be a winner and it was I love how Christy Hayes can take a premise that we ve heard before and make the characters wonderful and their story engrossing I think she also has a talent of connecting with the reader I found myself laughing out loud at the characters because I understood them, and not just because of their sense of humor Everything felt real, like it could happen in real life I don t think a premise has to be unique in romance but it has to stand out for a reason or other Here, Phil really is clueless and I love him for that I like that Margot s story isn t wrapped up perfectly in a bow but we still get the things we love to read about the romance I think this one was shorter than I would have liked but it wasn t underdeveloped so it was fine I just wantedWe do get to see snippets of Kate and Danny s life but this one really is all about Phil and Margot.I had read a review where the reader said that she would have loved it but for the homophobia I actually don t think there is any homophobia here at all It is pretty clear from the description that Phil does not want his friends and family back home to think he is gay when he is not I think that would be expected from any straight man but if that bothers you, this might not be the read for you.Overall, we meet another loveable couple in their attempts to find the right person for them The premise isn t unique but the story is well done Read this if you need a cute engrossing story that will make you smile
